Probate is a process involving a series of court proceedings utilized to supervise the transfer of a decedent’s assets to his or her heirs or selected beneficiaries. It involves filing a petition with the court asking the court to approve the appointment of someone to be the estate representative of the decedent. Usually, but not always, the appointed representative is a close relative of the decedent. Once that representative is appointed, he or she will be in charge of managing and ultimately (after the court approves it) distributing a decedent’s assets to all the people and/or entities entitled to receive distributions of the decedent’s property. Tax Preparation

People often incorrectly assume that it will be less expensive to hire a tax preparer than a tax attorney to prepare their tax returns. However, our fees are typically (if not always) much lower than any of the major tax preparation firms charge. When your tax returns are prepared and signed by a tax attorney, the IRS or Franchise Tax Board reviewer will know that. While that certainly doesn’t guarantee you favorable tax treatment or that there will be no audit, we believe there is an added value when a tax return is prepared by someone qualified to do a legal analysis of the information requested, and your responses, on the tax forms.
